This book equips young immunologists and health professionals with a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts and roles of co-signal molecules and in addition presents the latest information on co-stimulation. The first part of the book is devoted to co-signal molecules and the regulation of T cells. Following an initial overview, subsequent chapters examine each co-signal molecule in turn and discuss the mechanisms by which co-signal molecules regulate the different types of T cell. The second part covers various clinical applications, including in autoimmune disease, neurological disorders, transplantation, graft-versus-host disease, and cancer immunotherapy. To date, co-stimulation blockade and co-inhibition blockade have shown beneficial effects and many additional clinical trials targeting co-signal molecules are ongoing. The mechanisms underlying these successful treatments are explained and the future therapeutic potential in the aforementioned diseases is evaluated. Co-signal Molecules in T Cell Activation will be a valuable reference guide to co-stimulation for basic and clinical researchers in the fields of both immunology and pharmaceutical science.

Immune Checkpoints - B7-CD28, Immunoglobulin, and TNF ~ Regulation of immunity by immune checkpoints T-cell activation is an important part of effectuating the immune system. A three signal hypothesis has been constructed to explain the mechanism of activation. A first signal is antigen-specific and is provided through the interaction of the T-Cell receptor with the peptide MHC molecules on the dendritic cell (DC)/ antigen presenting cell (APC) or .

Understanding the Functions and Relationships of the ~ Moreover, soluble molecules draining from the CSF to the dcLNs are taken up by subcapsular APCs (DCs and macrophages), resulting in modulation of B and T cell activation in the dcLNs. OX40, OX40L and Autoimmunity: a Comprehensive Review ~ The tumour necrosis factor receptor OX40 (CD134) is activated by its cognate ligand OX40L (CD134L, CD252) and functions as a T cell co-stimulatory molecule. OX40-OX40L interactions have been proposed as a potential therapeutic target for treating autoimmunity. OX40 is expressed on activated T cells, …

Major histocompatibility complex / genetics / Britannica ~ In uninfected healthy cells, the MHC molecule presents peptides from its own cell (self peptides), to which T cells do not normally react. MHC molecules were initially defined as antigens that stimulate an organism’s immunologic response to transplanted organs and tissues. In the 1950s skin graft experiments carried out in mice showed that graft rejection was an immune reaction mounted by .
